Anyhow... The weekend is over - but I'll get to remember it for a while.
It only took me 3 and a half hours to drive to Keel Lake from my apartment in Dub (that's inclusive approx. 30 minutes that I got stuck on M50 for trying to find the slip road to N4..., and no stops - as there was nowhere to stop at that time of morning).
And it was fun I must admit, for that moment when we were in the water getting upwind. The other time horrible.
I got into the heat with Kasia and Cat, and I've decided to play it extremely safe and do all trick to my right side (avoiding any cool transitions - as that would sweep me downwind as well) and to edge as much as it was possible going back to the left. Why? Well - it was a lake. And two years ago I got stuck on the other side of it in offshore wind - and it wasn't any fun at all - so I wasn't looking forward to it at all. Anyhow, I got through the heat. And then watched Jenny and Dom ripping it up in the second heat - which was so cool - both girls were really pushing. Honestly - when Kasia started off with the downloop waterstart - I was like "Huh?". And myself trying to get me sloppy bottom off that Guinness-coloured water. But anyhow, again, it was fun. Gals had a comp for the place in the final - and Kas went through - so much effort though - fair _ tucks like - the wind was non-existent and all gals ended up downwind on the other side.
I think Jenny went to the other side of the like - 5 times? And that's like pack up and then a walk - and then hoping that somebody would pick her up! Kasia went there 2 or 3 times? And a few others ended up there.
But even that - the water was butter smooth - and so easy to do tricks - even despite gusty wind and all.
At the end of the day I felt the pain of walking flip-flopless for the day after I couldn't bent my back (or is age?). And the I ended up in the hotel room (which happened to be right over the club all the party was in) with horrible fever and no sleep at all. Drove back home in five hours, with the same fever and was watching MSS16 (My Super Sweet 16 - for those not as sad as me) and Hills: Lauren Remembers (the sadest thing is - I remember it too...) all day on Monday with the same damn fever, and I still have it. It's probably comparably clean water of Keel lake? Huh.... yeah roish...
